ELAINE MCGINN | HAMBLY & HAMBLY | 2020 | PHOTOGRAPHY | COURTESY OF BBEYOND

Elaine McGinn

Elaine McGinn studied fine art in the University of Ulster in Belfast 2000-4 and onto the MSC Art therapy Course in Queens University Belfast in 2006. Mcginn continued to develop her solo performance practices alongside teaching life class in South Eastern Regional college from 2006 – 2016.  Her performance works often respond to emotional charges in the body and sites of memory embedded within the architecture of violence.

My current work is broadly concerned with what it means to be a body in a post covid world, I use objects found in my local environment that are deteriorating in structure and hold a readymade backstory of coming into being.  Drawing on my own experience as well as the narratives of history and counter history, I explore making and remaking of meaning through the expansive qualities of reflection and performative actions, both inside and outside of institutional spaces.

McGinn casts a net over an ocean of experience and extracts her truths trough variegated metaphor. She aims to expand awareness of the crucial and complex role of the body in making and experiencing of art.

As an active committee member of Bbeyond,  Mcginn has recently taken on the role of Secretary and contributes regularly to everyday activities and workload.
