Drawing on Homi Bhabha’s notion of the ‘third space’—where cultural meaning is negotiated rather than fixed—this live performance explores the tensions between heritage and innovation, collective memory and individual expression.

Fort Dunree—a site where military history intersects with contemporary art—serves as the starting point for Rebecca Strain and Martha McCulloch’s 2023-24 body of work. This live performance emerges from that exploration, seeking a space between past and present, individual and society.

This durational performance event is a meditation on desire and (self) determination.

These acts transfigure something that has no inherent sexual value into something invaluable, something unquantifiable, something that evades language. The mundane is imbued with erotic charge through devotion. Rice is not boiled and eaten, but knelt on for hours. Water is suspended and held between lips.

Join us on Sunday 21 September from 2-5pm to explore the process of perversion. Each performance is a clear deviation from the expected way of using objects or engaging with this world.

The performances will take place simultaneously. This is a relaxed performance and audience members are welcome to come and go.

Olivia Hassett and Rachel MacManus, collaborating as Synaptic Space, will perform Push Pull as part of the Clifden Arts Festival 2025.

Market Stall Performance with Brian Connolly. This artwork will be an ‘interactive performance’ where the artist will engage the public in a range of activities and transactions, using humour and surreal ideas & imagery. The artwork will attempt to create insights into contemporary life and political issues, under the guise of normal trading practices.

This performance strategy was developed from the artist’s central observation that members of the public attending a Market Place are actively engaged in ‘looking’, as they are often seeking something, a specific item, or a bargain perhaps. In this ‘shopping’ mind-set, members of the public may come across a ‘Market Stall’, as simply another stall among multiple market traders.

Bbeyond member Noel Molloy will make a new performance, THE GREAT LEVELLER in the foyer of Roscommon Arts Centre for Culture Night.

Bbeyond has partnered with University of Atypical to showcase performance art by two of the 2025 New Commission artists, Sorcha Keeve and Elaine McGinn.
