Wiolette Ratajczak
The Bride (2) | Co. Mayo
Wioletta Ratajczak is an emerging interdisciplinary artist and Bbeyond member based in Dublin. Her current artistic practice focuses on creating small scale performative devices called 'moment catchers'. These are inspired by paradoxical everyday phenomena. She also has designed sculptural costumes influenced by her childhood experiences which she then uses in her performative interactions with the others. In 2022 and 2023, Wioletta was invited by the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) tutors John Waid and Bob Gray to take part in the creative workshops designed to generate items of work to act as examples of NCAD’s ethos of “bold & curious”. This work has subsequently featured in NCAD’s previous and current prospectuses. For the purpose of these projects she invented and constructed, among other things, a 'Braille-sound translator' musical instrument and the wearable '54321 Anxiety Method' device affecting the five senses. Prior to this, Wioletta conducted research; constructed big scale body oriented interactive sculptures, and lead art workshops in the fields of dementia at St. James's Hospital, (2019) and addiction at Tolka River Project, (2022-2023). Wioletta graduated from The National College of Art and Design in 2021 with a First Class BA(hons) degree in Sculpture and Expanded Practices with Critical Culture (joint course). Her experimental research and performances in the final year at NCAD included themes related to sexuality and death in the context of autism.
